Scaling Laborlink to identify risks of modern day slavery.
16 million people are in forced labor in the private economy worldwide. Half of these men and women are in debt bondage working to repay a debt that they have no hope of repaying. The second-highest number of victims of forced labor are in the Asia-Pacific region.
To better understand the underlying risks of forced labor in this region, I led the design for a new Laborlink Trafficking Module prototype as a part of our winning proposal to the Partnership for Freedom’s Rethink Supply Chains challenge. The $50,000 funding from the challenge enabled our team to launch a dedicated Laborlink survey and a new community-based methodology to help companies surface the risk of forced labor in their supply chains.
This project has served as a catalyst for Laborlink that has continued to expand with partnerships with Target, Vodafone, Amnesty International, and the Responsible Business Alliance.
